(It's easier to say Philly than explain where the heck Indiana is.)
"Oh, you're from Philadelphia, that's good. Glad to know you're not an American."
(Laughing along) "Yup."
"I love Canadians though. Philadelphia is near Seattle, eh?"
"Oh it's just a bit further east, between NYC & DC."
"...oh."
"So where are you from?"
(No reply.)
Easy strategy for avoiding conversations when traveling (from your anti-social brother): just pretend you don't speak whatever language the other person is speaking!
